It has begun

What, you ask?

The lifelong, essential, joyous experience of eating solid food.
It's such an enormous milestone. For the past five months her nutrition has come solely from milk, and now she is stepping into uncharted territory as far as she's concerned.
It's interesting the emotions that come with feeding your baby. I never thought that I would have given too much thought to it. I have come to the realization that I'm pretty passionate about it if I'm honest with myself. I'm actually kind of excited about the responsibility of choosing and making the things that go into her body. I'll keep you posted on how that goes!

I tried feeding her rice cereal about a month ago and she hated it. She cried and spit out every last bit of it. I just decided that it wasn't worth making her upset and it certainly was not essential (plus, it adds a whole new dimension to feeding- time, mess, etc.). My cousin suggested that I put some pureed fruit in with it. So, last week I tried again and I put in some pears and she loved it! I've also tried bananas with it. Fruit makes it taste a lot better. We feed her every evening right before bed and that's it. I'm just not quite ready to dive into all of it quite yet. So far, so good though!

A day at the beach (well...actually a week)

We spent a week with Katie and Mary Katherine on Kiawah Island! Let me just tell you, the beach experience is just not the same. Katie and I used to spend hours out on the beach taking long, deep breaths of salty air, soaking up the rays and discussing deep topics.
This year I spent most of my time stressing over putting enough sunscreen on my baby,
and Katie spent hers trying to convince MK not to throw sand.
You get the picture.
Nevertheless, we had a ball with our girls!.....

Even though it took us an hour to pack and get out on the beach.

And once we got out there they cried.

And then it was time to eat again.

And then Lael pooped and her diaper leaked.

Okay, I'm done...seriously, we did have a great time. :)

MK loves her baby Lael

Aunt Megan joined us for a couple of days!

The child is beautiful.

We also got to see my friend, Holly and her two pretty girls, Emma and Alli.

Kelli and Katie

This is my cousin, Katie (the one who shares a birthday with Lael) and me.

These are our daughters. See any resemblances?

We spent a week at Kiawah with Katie and Mary Katherine-just us girls! More on that later.

Five Months!

On April 17th Lael turned five months old! Here she is wearing another one of my old dresses!

Last Friday we lost our beloved Pop. He was almost 92 years old and going strong. We are going to miss him so much, but I am so incredibly thankful that Lael got to meet him. He joined our family about 7 and a half years ago when he asked my Memama to marry him, and it was such an enormous blessing to have a new grandfather. He loved my grandmother so much, and loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren as if they were his own. He lived his life serving God and others, and was full of life up until the day he died. His life served as a great example of selflessness. God was so gracious to have given us so many wonderful times and memories with him. Pop is now with his Heavenly Father and for that we are so grateful.

This is the last picture I took of Lael with him a few weeks ago. Trey had some business in Charlotte and so we tagged along and visited Memama and Pop. I'm so glad we did. We went out for pizza that night and had such a sweet time together.

I just had to include these sweet ones of Lael and her Memama that were taken that day, also. Priceless.

My husband put together this little video of Pop and Lael together. This was taken a couple of months ago when Lael was about 3 months old. Enjoy. :)

The Bjorn

Little Miss Particular finally likes her Baby Bjorn. I love the whole "baby wearing" thing, but unfortunately my little bundle never liked the sling or the Bjorn. She despised being faced in. About a month ago I took her in the mall in her Bjorn facing outward. She cried. Through the entire mall. I sheepishly smiled at all the pleasant shoppers while I frantically tried to put a cork pacifier in it. It didn't work. We left.

Now, let me share a tidbit about the oh so popular sling. A friend of mine gave me her Hotsling (thank you, Holly!) and I tried wearing it around the house one day when Lael was fussy to see if it would help her to be snuggled up close to me. Nope. She wouldn't have it. It was killing my back anyway, and so I took her out of it. Then I got to thinking.
After nearly 9 months of a weak and achy back I had finally gotten relief after shedding Why on earth would I strap her to my belly?! Now, don't get me wrong. I love holding, hugging and snuggling her but I was just ready to have her
not attached to my body.
Maybe I feel this way because Lael hated it.
If you don't share my sentiments it's probably because your baby loves the sling.
But I'm not bitter about that or anything. :)

Ahem...back to the Baby Bjorn.
These days she has decided that she loves it! She kicks, flaps her arms, and drools all the over the front of it!
This makes me a happy momma.
So, now that my back has regained its strength and Little Miss Particular is a little more tolerant I get to wear my baby.
And her Daddy does, too!

Okay, maybe she was just sucking on my face. I'll take it. :)

Lael's First Easter

I absolutely adore a bonnet on a baby girl. I absolutely adore a bonnet on that baby girl. :)

Lael received her first Easter basket complete with new pajamas, a dress, new pacifiers, baby sunscreen and an Easter book (note to self: Target does not carry books about the Easter story...shocker, I know. I should have known. Thank goodness for GramPatti's great finds!)

On Saturday we saw lots of family! First we made a stop in Rock Hill to see Mimi and Pops for lunch. Lael got to see her aunt, uncle, cousin, both great grandmothers and great grandfather!

Mimi with her two favorite grand-girls

Next we traveled up to Charlotte to see more family at Memama and Pop's.

Annual Easter egg dying contest

Lael loves her great Aunt Peggy

We finished out a wonderful day by watching the Duke game. My Memama loves that team something fierce. Lael was not so enthused. :)
