I think

that if Mayor White

just happened to drive by our house

and see this girl

sitting in our yard

I'm just gonna be honest

I can almost hear the gasps coming through the world wide web!
And I can see you giving me the stink-eye through the computer screen.

Coupons stress me out. Period.
And I generally try to avoid things that stress me out.

It's the latest craze, and if you coupon, I really do stand in awe of you. It takes a lot of hard work, research, dedication, and gumption to keep track of which stores are having sales, cut coupons, organize those coupons, remember to actually take those coupons with you to the store (my personal pit fall), and then remember to get them out of your purse (another pit fall).
But you probably have a notebook, box or special folder that you keep them in. :) Am I right?

I saw a couple in Publix not too long ago shopping together. Grocery shopping is not something that Trey and I do together. And I'm okay with that. I'm in charge of food and always have been. I'm pretty sure the last time he went with me he strolled through the isles in a BlackBerrry daze. Emailing, texting, BlackBerry messaging, and possibly a little Pac-man. Bless his heart.

Back to the couponing couple. They were walking through each isle and stopping in almost every section of those isles to look through their clear, pocketed paged, uber-organized coupon notebook to see if they had a coupon for the particular item they were looking at.
Wow. Now that is some dedication to saving money.
Me, I would rather just pay the extra 50 cents.
I'm all about getting in and out of that store. You never know how long the baby girl is gonna last.

Plus, a lot of the coupons that I see are for stuff that I just don't want! I have specific stuff that I want and I don't veer away from it. I want Skippy Natural, so I don't want the coupon for reduced fat JIF. And I don't want to buy two whole jugs of laundry detergent so that I can get the third one 50% off.

I'm aware that many of you reading this love you some coupons. Heck, I love some coupons, too. Who doesn't like free money? But I don't like the work. Anyone wanna cut some out for me and send 'em my way? :) Oh, and for stuff I want? K, thanks.

Now, if you're thinking, "You don't even use the 20% off Bed, Bath and Beyond coupons??!"
The answer to that is a resounding yes. I love those coupons. They are big and you can't lose them. I keep them in my purse and always have one on hand when I visit that store.
And yes, I use the great 20% off ones that Babies R Us sends out in the mail. Any kind of coupon that is a percentage off the entire purchase--I can handle that.

No, I don't "coupon", but... (this is the part where I get to the point)

sometimes I find out about a really great deal on something and I jump on it like white on rice. A friend of mine told me about Target diapers, and I want to let you in on the little secret if you don't already know.
They are great!!

Here's the breakdown:
You can buy 96 Pampers Baby Dry diapers for $19.99
You can buy 84 Pampers Swaddlers for $19.99
You can buy 100 Huggies diapers for $19.79

You can buy 96 Target brand diapers (Up & Up) for 13.69!!
They are super soft and super absorbent! This is a significant savings that I can get excited about. And my friends, I'm excited.

And one more thing.
Why is back-fat and cellulite so stinkin' cute on a baby?

the loop-dee-doo

Last week I noticed that Lael's hair on top has gotten significantly longer. Enough now to put a little bow in it! Woooohoooo! I also experimented with a new do that I think looks just fab on her.

It's called the Loop-Dee-Doo. Yes, I came up with the name. :) I used a little hair product to make it stick up and stay up, and...

She's totally digging it.

My inspiration??
Her GramPatti's baby picture!
And yes, I am completely aware of the fact that my child looks just like her grandmother. It is nuts. But I love it.

On another note, I have to give a shout out to one of my most fave blogs ever. You may have seen the link on my blog roll a while back. It's called Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. People have asked me if I personally know this girl, and the answer is no. I just stumbled across her blog a few years ago, fell in love with the beautiful pictures of her little girls and have followed it ever since. People-- her daughters are like live china dolls. And they know how to work the camera. She has them trained well. I am already working on Lael.
Kelly (the blogger) has since started her own photography business, and her work is phenomenal. Her web site it here. Her blog photos of her girls have been my inspiration for my own photos of my little girl. Although I still have much to learn.

I asked Trey if it would be weird for me to travel to Texas to have Kelly do a photo shoot of Lael. He said yes. That would be weird. Glad I have him to reign me in. I'll just have to wait until she's in SC. :)

A few months ago Kelly announced that she was selling some of her girls' clothes on Ebay. You better believe I jumped right on it. If you spend any amount of time looking at her blog you will see that her girls are dressed to the nines. All the time. In precious, different kind of stuff that you don't see everyday.
So, here is Lael in her "Lucy/Annie dress" as I like to call it. With her Loop-Dee-Doo hairdo.

Daddy Day

Father's Day was quite lovely, but not too eventful. I'll tell you this though, this Daddy was THANK- FULL to have his girl out of utero this year! Yep, and I am, too.

We took the girl to the pool at the Y. She. loves. it.

I'm thankful for this man right here. I'm a Daddy's girl. Always have been.

Open mouth kiss, bite, or sneeze? That is the question.

Our dear friends, Rod and Jewitte were in town and grabbed lunch with us after church at "Smoke" --that's Smoke on the Water for you non- Greenvillians. Greenville-ites? Greenville-ons? Whatev. What do you call us?

This child has never fallen asleep like this.
That might be why she just relented. It's okay. We were pretty shaded and there was a little breeze.
Plus, she loves her Auntie Jew. Plus, Auntie Jew fed her as many lemons as she wanted. That always helps. :)
It truly warmed my heart for Lael to be such a sweetie and sit in Jewitte's lap the entire time.

first time as the first mate

Lael assisted her Granddaddy in navigating Lake Murray for the first time a couple of weeks ago. She was mainly concerned with getting that darn bobber in her mouth that was attached to the boat key. Nevertheless, she put a big smile on her Granddaddy's face as she acted as his "first mate".

Back together again after a week of Lael and me being at the beach makes for some pontoon boat snuggle time for me and the honey. Missed this man.

I prefer to cruise the lake in the nude.

Just kidding.

I had on a strapless sundress. :)

♫♫♫♫♫ Reunited and it feels so good. ♫♫♫♫♫

My two Megans lookin' presh together.
Aunt Megan is getting married in 17 DAYS!!! My lil' sis who has been living with us for the past couple of months will be flying the coop very soon. I can't believe it.

We are already praying for our Megan that she will wait patiently for her prince charming that God has picked for her. Her namesake has lived out a shining example of this and for that we are so thankful.

Because I just can't help it

More comparison pictures! C'mon, you know you love 'em. :) I'm a bit obsessed with them.

First up: Katie and Kelli, reborn. Yep, just with a little hubby genes mixed in.

Next: White sun hat, bathing suit, inquisitive look, mouth slightly open picture.

3rd: Momma/baby beach picture. My mom is looking stellar in her strapless one piece. Rock star bod only a few months after giving birth to me.
I'm not sure, but I think that both pictures were taken on the lovely beaches of Kiawah.

Lastly: Momma/baby pool picture. I was such a happy child. Can ya tell?
There's nothing better than a baby in a bathing suit-- exposing that sweet baby chub to kiss on! Seeing the picture of me as a baby makes me want to kiss my own chub! Ha!
Despite the sunscreen that I am religious about putting on Lael, she is beginning to get a slight brown glow. I can't lie. It secretly makes me happy. Guess it's no secret now since I'm telling you. :)

Seven months

On June 17th Lael turned 7 months! Time is absolutely flying by. I just want to bottle up the moments that I have with her and relive it all again. When she was born I thought that it was just not possible to love her anymore than I did during those first days. I was wrong. I am loving her more and more with each passing day and soaking up every ounce of her.

She is so much fun at this age. I feel like she's my little "partner in crime". I mean, not that we are criminals or do anything criminalistic.
I just made that word up.
What I'm trying to say is that I genuinely enjoy spending time with her, talking to her, and playing with her. We're buds, compadres, pals, chums. Get the picture? :)

"My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."
Psalm 139:15-16

the good life

These girls are livin' it up Kiawah Island style. They don't know it yet, but this is the good life. I promised myself that I wouldn't get mushy and go on and on about how these pictures warm my heart to see our daughters together, remind me of the sweetness of a cousin's love, bring to mind childhood memories, make me ponder life's simple pleasures, etc., etc., etc.

So I'm not going to do that.

I'm clearly not. The pictures speak for themselves.

Sniff, sniff. Oh, the sweetness!

But just so I don't paint a picture of perfection--that our children are angelic cherubs who sit perfectly still in the sand and pat each other's backs all day-- this is pre-meltdown.
I'm sure the people around us were thanking their lucky stars when we started trudging back to the car.

Where there's a will pool, there's a way!
It's pretty crucial to have a pool on the days when going to the beach seems more like a chore than recreation.
It can be a bit maddening to find grains of sand in and on every last thing that you brought to the beach...including your baby. I'm still finding it in her ears. I have gone to great lengths to protect my valuable belongings from the all consuming sand beast. Doesn't matter. Those little particles--they are sneaky. They find a way.
Pools are clean.
Yeah, yeah. I hear ya. They are chock-full of chlorine and who knows how many tiny tykes have tinkled in the last 5 minutes, but when there's only a handful of people who use a particular pool, and you know those people, in my head it just makes it seem better.

So, on the days when we didn't feel like packing up our entire lives, we camped out by the pool conveniently located in the backyard.
Which I must add is conveniently located mere yards away from the refrigerator and bathroom. 'Nough said.

Again, the sweetness abounds.

After a long day of sunning we decided to let the girls take a spin in the convertible.

To the mailbox and back.

Trouble, I tell ya.

where to even start

Well, I'll start with this. I captured for you the wonderfulness of most of my evenings last week during my blogging hiatus.

The daily view wasn't too bad, I guess.

Lael and I spent a week on John's Island, SC with my cousin, Katie and her little girl. We stayed in my aunt and uncle's home while they were away on a trip. It was glorious. We had absolutely nothing we had to do, but could basically do anything we wanted to do. Aaaaahhh.

As soon as we arrived Katie and I left the girls with a babysitter to go see...

Great concert. Love them. We were on the 4th row and made it on the jumbo tron 5 times! They played on the beautiful Daniel Island. Hot...muggy...humid...but fun.
Did I mention that it was hot?

And because I just couldn't help myself...

If you go to a concert where the band sings a song called "Chicken Fried" you are bound to see one of these.
I just love a good mullet.
And I love QT with this gal.

During our week in South Carolina's paradise there was a lot of this.

{sigh} This smile makes my heart nearly jump out of my chest.

And yes, there was a lot of this. I eventually just gave up.

more tomorrow...

I'd rather be at the lake

Last weekend we went to my hometown. Good 'ole L-town (that's Lexington for those of you not in the know :). My parents live on Lake Murray, and it's always quite the treat in the summers to lay out on the dock and soak up some rays.

This year as my mom and I were sitting outside playing with Lael, she said,
"Can you believe that we're out here this year with your baby?"
Nope, Momma. I can't.

We moved into the lake house the summer before my senior year of high school, so I can't really say that I "grew up" there, but needless to say, the memories abound.
Sometimes when I sit in the basement family room adorned with all of our childhood pictures I get nostalgic as I recall my childhood and adolescent days.
And then I hear my precious daughter waking up in her crib in the next room. It's a little surreal. That she's actually here. That my dream of becoming a mother is actually being played out. That this time has come.

Some of my baby dolls still perfectly placed in my old room bring to mind the hours upon hours that I spent pretending I was a mommy. Imagining the day when I would have an actual, real life baby that I could hold and play with all day long and one who would love me back.
My baby doll is here.
I take none of it lightly. God has had shown me His tender mercy. He has been gracious to me, and I don't deserve it. He has given me a priceless gift in my daughter. I thank Him multiple times daily.

When we moved into that house as a family I remember thinking,
my parents will probably be in this house for a good while...I'll probably bring my husband to this house one day...and I'll probably get to see my future children play in this family room.

And here we are. My husband and my daughter playing in the lake.

It takes quite a guy to feel completely comfortable laying out in a pink float. That's one of the million reasons that I love him so much.

I call this the "Kelli face"

Nothin' like skinny dippin' in the lake. Believe me, I've done it. :)

Remember a couple of weeks ago when I introduced you to...

Drumroll, please.

It gives me great joy, er, um, not present to you...

Ahem. And remember when I said that she didn't seem bothered by her one little tooth?
I guess all I have to say is...
two are better more painful than one.

On to other things-

You may or may not have noticed, but we are now

Thus the loss of the blog roll and comments...hmm, not sure what happened with that.
No worries, the old blog address still works. Just a little fyi for ya. :)

Next up...

I wanted to share with you my awesome baby food storage containers. They are made by Especially for Baby and you can check them out here.

The box contains two of what you see in the picture above, so that means that you get 16 little plastic cups and two trays for $9.99. They snap to close, are dishwasher safe (although I just wash mine by hand), freezer safe and microwave safe!

I pulled one of my cups out of the freezer to show you. Each cup holds two ounces of food (compared to many of the baby food freezer trays that only hold 1 ounce of food). They come with little white labels so you can write what kind of food is in it and when you made it. Pop this little baby in the microwave for about a minute and ta da! No popping out of trays, and no messing with bowls.

No fuss, no muss. These things make me a happy girl.

And that makes my husband a happy man.

So, he likes them, too. :)
