i ❤ wooden high chairs

There is just something about them. It might be because I grew up eating in one. I love the antique feel of them. Classic, traditional, durable, and dependable. If I must have baby items scattered amongst my house I prefer for them to blend in and mesh with my home decor. To me it's more than just a high chair. It's a piece of furniture. One that can be passed down.

Here I am in my old wooden high chair that Lael now uses when she goes to my parents' house.

Kelli as a toddler-112

I never registered for a high chair from Babies R Us because I knew that I wanted to purchase a bare wood one that I could stain to match our espresso colored dining room table. After much blood, sweat and tears, I finished it and Lael is enjoying the fruit of my labor.

Recap of staining process:

Did I go to Sherwin Williams and get them to match the stain?
Yes.

Did my sweet husband, who has never stained anything in his life, try to do it and actually just paint on the stain without wiping it down as he went?
Yes.
(I love you, honey. That darn Mr. Williams didn't inform you correctly!)

While out in the August heat, did I have to sand off all of the excess stain that my husband left just sitting on the surface of the chair?
Yes.

Did I then have to stain back over it the right way and do 3 different coats?
Yes.

Did I then have to add a reddish stain over it to get the right color because the chair had more of a purple tint?
Yes.

Did I then have to do 2 coats of polyurethane?
Yes.

K. Just wanted to be clear on all of that.

You can see why I might be a little partial to this high chair.

As a side note, Lael's newest fave thing to do is not swallow her food. Thus, the chipmunk face in the picture above. She just stores it in her little cheeks.
Awesome.
Meal times take FOR.EVER.

Can I just tell you how happy it makes me to have a furry friend that is poised and ready for any kind of crumb that might just happen to fall? I knew I loved that dog.

  2. Amen on the dog! We often say that we don't know how anyone has children WITHOUT a dog to clean up the crumbs!

  3. I love the highchair! Good job. I too love wooden highchairs. Alli has the highchair that I used when I was a baby. It's a very sentimental thing. So fun that you'll be able to pass it down :)
