Over the river and through the woods

And up and down and around. We went to Highlands, NC with our dear friends, Mark and Kathryn and their little girl Julianne (who is Lael's age). They have friends who were gracious enough to let us stay in their little cabin in Sapphire for a night. It was so quaint and cozy.

As I was saying... up and down and around...
I've realized that the older I get the more prone to car sickness I have become. I adore the mountains. But I don't like how they make me feel. Since neither couple had a vehicle large enough for all of us to fit into, we decided to let the girls ride in one car and the guys ride in the other. Kathryn and I would take turns driving, and consequently would take turns feeling sick. I think that I've decided that I could never live on a mountain. I can go ahead and cross that off the list of things I must do before I die. Mountain living will not be one of those things. And I'm okay with that. I would be sick, like everyday of my life. I'm thinkin' I'd like to avoid that.

By the way, while sitting in the passenger seat, have you ever had to turn around and try to find a pacifier for your fussy child while riding up a mountain? Yeah... it's not cool. It'll take you about 30 minutes to feel normal again. Note to self.

Enough about that. I'm starting to feel funny just typing about it.

So thankful for this sweet, sweet friend.

And so thankful for fire-building weather again!

I had never been to Highlands before, and I can't believe I've missed out on this little jewel of a town for so long! So many neat little shops and restaurants. The boys were on duty while we perused the stores.

Can we all take note of the blue bow so cutely clipped onto my husband's jeans pocket? A true daddy to a daughter. If, Lord willing, we are blessed with more children and they all happen to be little girls, I have no doubt that Trey will embrace every sweet bit of it.

In the past 10 months I've taught him:
a. that a little girl must not show her diaper... bloomers must be worn!
b. that if he gets Lael out of her car seat and there's not a bow in her hair then she must have taken it out and he needs to look for it and put it in her hair again.

A question that is frequently uttered from his lips before leaving the house:

"Babe, is there a bow that goes with this outfit?"

Oh, oh, oh. How I love that man.

There's nothing like two little girls sitting in high chairs to draw a crowd in a restaurant.

Also, please notice the matching flip n' sip cups. :)

Thank you, Mark and Kathryn for such a lovely time!

  2. We are so thankful for the Ingrams! We had a great time too! You forgot to mention our silly song singing and how the girls were P-E-R-F-E-C-T for their dads and as soon as they were in our car, the crying began! Loved this past weekend and look forward to many more memories with yall :)
