A year ago Lael's Granddaddy (my dad) was diagnosed with Merkel Cell Carcinoma, underwent chemotherapy and radiation over the summer and thankfully had clear scans last September. After a few weeks of experiencing some strange symptoms he decided to call his doctor and they had him come in for an MRI and CT scan last Friday. My dad's suspicions were confirmed, and we learned on Monday that he has two tumors on his brain.
He will be undergoing surgery tomorrow morning around 9:30 to remove one of the tumors (one that is quite large), and will then undergo radiation in three weeks to shrink the other tumor. We are thankful that the tumor to be removed is relatively easy to get to and that doctors don't expect the surgery to damage his brain. The doctors are 90% sure that these tumors are related to the Merkel Cell Carcinoma he had a year ago. It is known to have a 50% chance of coming back. In his case, it has metastasized to his brain.
It is a scary time. A time of uncertainty, questions and waiting. But we are confident in the One who holds life in His hands. Our God is the Great Physician, and He is in control. We are praying that He would heal my daddy and that He would give the doctors wisdom and discernment tomorrow as they perform the surgery. If you think about it, will you pray along with us? Pray for peace for my daddy and my momma as they walk through this, and for healing in the weeks ahead. We are so thankful for friends and family who have been such a great support system during this difficult time.
I love this picture. It was taken last summer when he was in the midst of chemo treatments. Lael can always put a smile on his face!
We love you, Daddy and we are all standing behind you!
